Meet Top 7 Yoruba Actors In Nigeria 2014

The Yoruba movie industry has survived different generations of actors and still managed to remain relevant in the country’s entertainment sector.Nigerian Entertainment Todayhighlights, in no particular order, 10 most popular and reigning actors in the industry….
Odunlade Adekola

As an actor, Adekola has appeared in over a hundred movies and has produced a few including ‘Farapamo’, ‘Emi nire Kan’, ‘Fayebora’, I’la Owo’ and ‘Baba Super’. He is widely acclaimed to be the most versatile of the Yoruba actors and this is unconnected to the way he delivers in both comic and serious characters. Arguably, he stands tall as the highest paid actor in the Yoruba film sector.
Funke Akindele

The only Yoruba actress to have won an AMAA Best Actress in leading role award for her 2009 movie ‘Jenifa’. She also is the one with the highest endorsement, one of the reasons she is often tipped to be the richest amongst her colleagues.
Dayo Amusa

She began her foray into Nollywood in 2002 and has since then managed to become a popular face, clinched a few awards and even produced about eight movies including ‘Dewunmi Iberu’ and ‘Ajegbodo’ via her Amzadol Productions. Her latest effort entitled ‘Unforgivable‘ was directed by Desmond Elliot and featured Mike Ezuoronye, a move she said was to help bridge the gap between Yoruba and English actors.
Mecry Aigbe-Gentry

Mecry Aigbe-Gentry has become a household name. Popularly referred to as Osas, Aigbe attended Comprehensive High School, Maryland, Lagos, The Polytechnic Ibadan and finally University of Lagos where she studied Theatre Arts. She hit the limelight after featuring in the Wemimo Film produced movie, ‘Ara’ and has featured in well over 70 other movies and has produced some, the latest of which is ‘Life After Marriage’, which features Ghanaian actress, Juliet Ibrahim.
In 2009, she was named Best Yoruba actress by City People Awards and Afro Hollywood Award, U.K. She achieved the same feat in 2012. Her 2011 movie, Osas (Omoge Benin) dragged to her door step a lot of controversies as many alleged she jacked the idea from Jenifa, a movie produced by Funke Akindele but Aigbe is quick to refute such claims.
Femi Adebayo

Femi Adebayo’s success in the world of movie making didn’t come as a surprise to many considering his relationship with veteran actor, Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello) and the success of his some of his siblings involved in movie making.
Adebayo, popularly called Jelili following the success of his 2011 comedy, ‘Jelili’ got his first major role in 1996 in the movie ‘Owo Blow’ directed by Tade Ogidan. He took a break shortly after to complete his academics and returned 10 years later after which he began to feature in several movies.
Olaniyi Afonja Olaniyi

Olaniyi Afonja is popularly referred to as Sanyeri amongst movie lovers and is credited to have brought a fresh air to how comedy is served with his ‘Muniru ati Ambali’ movie. He started acting in 1992 with a Theatre group with which he performed at different towns which further endeared him to the profession, so when his parents objected to the choice, he was head strong. He relocated to Lagos in 1996 and joined the Ajala Jalingo theatre group. Since his foray into the industry, he has continued both as an actor and producer with movies including ‘Aina Orosun’, ‘Oro Asoti’ and the 2011 comedy, ‘Opa kan.’ His ability to evoke laughter out of the audience won him the spot in the heart of several movie lovers, who enjoy his comic roles in movies.
Fathia Balogun

The 45-year-old actress till date remains one of the most featured actresses in the Yoruba sector despite being a native of Delta State. She graduated from Maryland comprehensive High School, Maryland, Lagos State, Nigeria and proceeded to Kwara State Polytechnic in Kwara State, Nigeria. Her character in the Wale Adenuga Productions produced Super Story fetched her accolades from TV lovers and further intensified her position as a cross over actress. She has since featured in over 70 movies including ‘Yemoja’, ‘Ito Funfun’, ‘Jawonbe’ and won several awards.

EFCC Arraign Two For $91,000 Internet Fraud [See Photo]

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday, September 26, 2014 arraigned Dandeson Ebosele Ibhonitie, 26, (a.k.a Dandy James, Connor Mead and Barrister Louis Harpoch and Ohiwerei Charity, 31, before Justice E. F. Ikponmwen of Edo State High Court, Benin-City on a 3- count charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence.
Ibhonitie and Charity allegedly belong to the group of fraudsters using the internet to defraud unsuspecting victims.
Ibhonitie allegedly defrauded one Mrs. Weidman Andrea Sabrie, a German, of the sum of $ 91,000 (Ninety-One Thousand United States Dollars) by pretending to be an American working in Nigeria for a road construction company.
To access the proceeds of the fraud, Ibhonitie allegedly opened a domiciliary account in the name of one Mr. Steven.
He entered into an agreement with Charity, the account officer that opened the account for him, on how the proceeds from the crime will be shared.
By the arrangement, Charity was to keep 3 percent of every inflow to herself while 7 percent will go to Ibhonitie. The remaining 90 percent, by the arrangement, went to Steven.
However, investigations showed that Ibhonitie was the same as Steven.
When the charges were read to them, they pleaded not guilty.
One of the counts read:
“Dandeson Ebosele Ibhonitie (a.k.a Dandy James, Connor Mead, Barrister Louis Harpoch, Brett Francis Steven (still at large) and Ohiwerei Charity on or about the 2nd day of April, 2014 at Benin within the Benin judicial division, with intent to defraud obtained the sum of USD 45,000.00(Forty Five Thousand United State Dollars) from Mrs. Weidman Andrea Sabrie, a German national through Skye Bank of Nigeria Limited Account No: 2520346555 in the name of Dandy James by falsely pretending to her that the said sum of money represented legal fee for Barrister Louis Harpoch for your defense which pretence you knew to be false”.
In view of their pleas, prosecuting counsel, Ayokunle Fayanju, prayed the court for a trial date. He also opposed the bail applications of the defendants.
Justice Ikponmwen adjourned the matter till August, 30, 2014 for hearing of bail applications and ordered that the defendants be remanded in prison custody.

WICKEDNESS: Woman Pours Hot Water On 12-Year-Old Housemaid

The police have arraigned one Mrs. Bethelyn Falade for allegedly torturing her housemaid with hot water.Sunday-360×284
The 27-year-old woman was said to have poured the hot water on the girl, Chinecherem Sunday, as punishment for her stubbornness.
The police said the hot water inflicted wounds on her chest in the process.
It was gathered that Falade’s act was triggered by her missing laptop which the housemaid said was taken by her brother-in-law, identified simply as Lekan, while she was not around.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the woman faulted Sunday’s explanation, saying that the housemaid ought to have notified her before she inquired of the laptop.
Police said the Abia State-born Falade, in a burst of anger, grabbed a kettle on the gas cooker and poured it on the girl.
It was said that Falade’s neighbours on Church Street, Powerline, in the Ijaiye-Ojokoro area of Lagos, alerted a human rights group to the incident, having sighted the victim’s burnt chest. The group, it was learnt, reported the case to the police who eventually arrested Falade.
Falade appeared before a Magistrate’s Court sitting at Ojokoro in the Ifako-IJaiye area of the state on two counts of maltreatment and assault.
The prosecutor, Lugard Ahonle, said the charges, to which the accused pleaded not guilty, were contrary to and punishable under sections 135 and 171 Vol.44 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
The counts read, “That you, Bethelyn Falade, of Church Street, off Cole Street, Powerline, Ijaiye-Ojokoro, Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did unlawfully and indecently maltreat one Chinecherem Sunday, 12 years, by pouring hot water on her body on August 31, 2014 at about 11pm.
“That you, of the above address, in the aforementioned magisterial district, did unlawfully assault one Chinecherem Sunday by constantly beating her up.”
After the defence counsel pleaded with the court that his client be granted bail in liberal terms, the magistrate, Mrs. T. Akani, admitted him to bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in the like sum. Akani added that “The sureties must be gainfully employed, present three years of tax payment and their residential addresses must be verified by the prosecutor.” The matter was adjourned till November 17, 2014 for mention.

UNBELIEVABLE!!! Three-Eyed Cow Now Worshipped As God In India

Between Africans and Indians, I really can’t tell which is most superstitious or traditional, as we have just recently learnt that a three-eyed calf is now being hailed as a spiritual icon across India.
According to Mirror, the baby animal has been hailed as a blessing by Hindus after being born with a third eye in the middle of its forehead two weeks ago.
Meghala, the owner of the new found Hindu god described baby Shiva as a miracle, while many believe the calf is the reincarnation of three-eyed Hindu God and namesake Shiva.
The cow has become a major attraction in Tamil Nadu, southern India, with hundreds flocking to catch a glimpse of the ‘deity’ and pray to it.
Hindu children have been touching the cute animal on the head, believing it will bring good fortune, and in Hinduism, Shiva is regarded is one of the primary gods and patron of yoga and arts.
Hmm! Outrageous or cool? What’s your thought?

How Wicked Husband Sells His Own Wife To Ritualists

Money is good, but the love of money is the root of all evil.
Men of the Nigerian police force have arrested a man for selling his own wife to black magic practitioners who were looking for a vir-gin to sacrifice, all in a bid to make quick money.
According to police, the deal which was struck in the central Nigerian state of Plateau was cancelled at the last minute when the ritualists realised that the woman was not a vir-gin but a housewife.
“The man lured his wife to a bush under the pretext of fetching firewood and sold her to two ritualists for 800,000 naira (about $5,000), Plateau state police spokesman Abuh Emmanuel told AFP.
He said the man, from Kwalla town, lied to the ritualists that the woman was a virgin and had been given part of the money.
“When the ritualists discovered that the woman was the man’s wife, they asked her to go because she could not be used for the sacrifice,” he said.
The husband and his two accomplices were arrested after the wife reported the incident to the police.
“The suspects are in our custody and will be taken to court for criminal conspiracy and an attempted m****r,” he said.

Fans Mock Desmond Elliot Over Yoruba Name

Nollywood actor, Desmond Elliot is in the eye of the storm as his fans have been taking swipes at him for adding the Yoruba name, Olushola, to his name now that he is contesting for a seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Shortly after he declared his intention to run for a seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly and coming out with his campaign posters, Nollywood top actor, director and producer, Desmond ‘Olushola’ Elliot, has been put under fire by his fans, who are surprised at the realisation that he has actually has a Yoruba name, one he has never used until now.
Some of his fans believe he decides to identify with the Yoruba name because of what he wants to achieve and are not happy with him.
They believe that he is only putting out that name so that people will see him as a Yoruba man, something he guarded jealously before now.
The sudden adoption of the name Olushola has drawn a lot of talking points, even from his colleagues, especially the Yoruba speaking ones who say Desmond never identified with them and never accepted that he was a Yoruba man, only accepting the fact because he wants to go into politics.
Some took to social media to express their dismay at the sudden cropping up of the name Oluwashola. One Blessing Efam had this to say:
«Very sad. Like Jonna who added Ebele to his name in other to fool the Igbos, this one has also added Yoruba name to his name, just to get the votes of the ignorant people that will be carried away by his fame and vote.
MzEloh wrote on Desmond’s Instagram page:
«And ‘Olusola’ comes out. I thought he was from Delta state? Desmond choose one, actor, filmmaker or politician.
Azeez Oluwaseun had this on Facebook:
«Olusola… Laughable! Well, let the best man win. If he has anything tangible to contribute, then he should be given a chance. The new name he added though, is laughable.
«Is that supposed to garner more votes for him or what? LOL! Are we Yorubas mediocres or are we short of intelligent Yorubas who can vie for office? Why the new name?
Tobena blasted on twitter:
«This is really funny, though, did he suddenly remember his ancestors are Yoruba, abi where did Olusola surface from, nawa oh…Olushola ko! Olushola ni!
«So all of a sudden, he remembers he has a Yoruba name eh! Guy, contest if you want but don’t come up with any name thinking it’s gonna change anything! «I’m sure GEJ is your role model cos you’ve started towing his path of adding Ebele to his name to gain favour with the Igbos.
Small time you go come dey tell us how you no get shoe and you dey trek the streets of Lagos!
«Who even knew this dude was Yoruba? He never identified as one and now all in the name of politricks, his name is Olushola…..Oga park well biko!
Mimi wrote on twitter:
«I don’t have a problem with him going into politics, but the fact that he never proudly identified as a Yoruba man (used english names, never spoke Yoruba or did anything to signify he was Yoruba), but all of a sudden, because he’s running for office in Yoruba land, whips out his Yoruba name, tells a lot about his dodgy intentions. It’s such a cunning and manipulative behavior.

I Am More Experienced To Govern Nigeria Than President Jonathan – Atiku Abubakar

All Progressives Congress Presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar is of the opinion that incumbent Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan is inexperienced and incapable of governing Nigeria.
The former Vice President made his claims while speaking to AFP earlier today, here’s what he said:
“This insurgency shouldn’t have lasted even six months. Within weeks, we (Obasanjo and I) crushed it because we did not neglect military training and, of course, we did not lack the leadership and the capacity to take decisions. I told Nigerians that he (Jonathan) did not have the capacity; he didn’t have the experience. He didn’t have anything and yet they gave him the chance, the opportunity. And they can now see the chance and the opportunity they gave him. Of course, I’m more experienced than he is. I believe my capacity cannot be compared with his, in all respect.” he said

See How Anambra Man Was Forced To Join Boko-Haram

Mr. Oyebuchi Romanus who hailed from Ekwusigo Local Government Area in Anambra State yesterday disclosed that he was forcibly recruited by the Boko Haram insurgents in Jos, Plateau State, where he was doing business.
Romanus, who told journalists in Yola that he was recruited by the insurgents in May this year, added that he was taken to a place near Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State by insurgents for training against his wish.
He said it was the prayers of Nigerians that helped him to escape from the training camp of the insurgents near Madagali.
The 34-year-old Igbo man, while narrating his ordeal, said he was forcibly recruited in May this year by insurgents shortly after he had lost his business in a bomb blast that rocked Jos.
He explained that while he was lamenting over the loss of his business, unknown men forcibly put him in the boot of their car and later discovered that they were driving towards the Northern part of the country.
Romanus said he couldn’t do anything because he was drugged and later fell asleep in their car after he was brought out of the boot of the car..
On reaching their destination, his abductors finally introduced themselves as members of the Boko Haram sect.
He said he was asked by his abductors to join them or they would kill him which he agreed and that, and later escaped from their training camp close to Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
“I accepted to join the Boko Haram group to save my life. My religious belief and upbringing forbid me from killing my fellow human being which made me not to participate in any of their activities, and when they realised this, they started threatening my life even to the point of swearing in the name of Allah(God) that they would killed me if l continue to dodge their activities, but when I saw how serious they were, I decided to run away from their camp to Niger Republic when I was asked to fetch water from a nearby river before finding my way back to the state,” he narrated. Also Mr. John Matthew, a native of Madagali, told journalists in Yola that some of them were forcibly recruited but he said he was abandoned by the insurgents in a desert because he fell ill and managed to escape to Yola, the state capital.

Boko Haram Plans To Use Mechanics, Car Wash Centers To Plant Bombs In Cars

Aftermath the heavy defeats inflicted on Boko Haram insurgents in recent weeks, indications have emerged that the group are recruiting auto-mechanic and car wash operators across the country with a view to using their centers as loading bays to plant IEDS’ on vehicles of unsuspecting members of the public to cause havoc.
The objective is to hit at some top government establishment and functionaries as well as military and police locations in other parts of the country outside the North East epicenter of the insurgency to divert attention from the increasingly successful onslaught on the group in recent days.
Towards this end, Intelligence sources told Vanguard that the Boko Haram group have infiltrated the ranks of many of the operators and bought them over with very mouth watering sums of money to look the other way when the explosives were being planted on the vehicles.
According to the source, the terrorists knowing that many vehicle owners hardly find time to spend with their mechanics or car wash operators, have concluded the plot to fix improvised explosive devices on such vehicles while they are with the mechanic or cash wash.
When the unsuspecting owner of the car comes to carry his or her car, he will drive off with an explosives laden car that has been programmed to explode within minutes or an hour as the case maybe and in the process; he may be consumed by the havoc the explosion will cause.
A signal confirming this development and addressed to all military formations in the country said, “Boko Haram Infiltrates Auto-Mechanic and Car Wash Centers’. It said the group was planning to use vehicles of unsuspecting members of the public, especially prominent persons and top functionaries as bomb explosive carriers”.
The targets of such dastardly plots according to the signal are official government quarters, military barrack and public centers.
The public, vehicles owners and users are therefore urged to be vigilant and watchful especially when giving and collecting their vehicles from auto-mechanic and car wash centers; the military warned.

UNbelievable:- 700-Year-Old Skeleton Couple Found Holding Hands (See Photo)

Seven hundred years after their death, a couple has yet to part.
Archaeologists excavating the site of a long-lost chapel in the countryside of Leicestershire, England unearthed the skeletons of a couple who appear to have been buried together holding hands.
Experts from the University of Leicester Archaeological Services made the discovery with local volunteers during a dig at what once was the Chapel of St. Morell, a 14th-century pilgrimage site in Hallaton, according to a university press release.
In addition to the loving duo, archaeologists uncovered nine other skeletons at the site. Radiocarbon dating revealed their bones date back to the 14th century.
The findings have left archaeologists wondering about the conditions surrounding the burials, with speculation the people buried there could have been “criminals, foreigners or sick.”
“We have seen similar skeletons before from Leicester where a couple has been buried together in a single grave,” Vicki Score, ULAS project manager, said in a statement. “The main question we find ourselves asking is why were they buried up there? There is a perfectly good church in Hallaton.
This leads us to wonder if the chapel could have served as some sort of special place of burial at the time.”
Other relics discovered at the chapel have provided clues into the site’s Roman past; researchers estimate the area has been a place of significance for more than 2,000 years. Findings include silver pennies dating between the 12th and 16th centuries and bits of stone masonry, according to the university.
The Leicestershire couple is not the first pair of skeletons to be discovered holding hands. In 2011, Italian archaeologists discovered the skeletal remains of a couple holding hands that date back to the 5th and 6th century. The woman’s body was found positioned facing towards her male partner, according to Discovery News.
Last year, the remains of a couple believed to have lived between 1450 and 1550 were discovered in Romania, “seemingly bound in a endless embrace of love.”

At Last:- Pastor Kumuyi Suggests Lasting Solution To Boko Haram

The Deeper Life Bible Church on Monday said the various challenges facing Nigeria, including Boko Haram and Ebola outbreaks, require spiritual intervention from God and urged the people to move closer to God in this end-time.
The church also stressed that there is the need at the moment for leaders in position of authority to double their efforts in eradicating poverty, which is fast growing in the land.
It said the persistent terrorist attack in Nigeria has spiritual, social and economic foundation.
The State of Osun Overseer of the Church, Pastor John Adeniran, said this on Monday during a courtesy visit to the Head office of OSUN DEFENDER Newspaper, Ogo-Oluwa, Osogbo on the forthcoming International Crusade tagged: Explosion of Supernatural Miracles, to be presided over by the Church General Superintendent, Pastor W. F. Kumuyi.
The state overseer, who was represented by Pastor Fola Ajala, Overseer, Ife Zone, who led other members of the church during the visit, said most of the happenings in the world today are the evidence of the end-time.
He said: “All what is happening requires God’s intervention. It is a strong signal of the end time. It is like a track race, when it is about to end, the competitors will double their energy. Those in the Devil’s kingdom are also doubling their energy this time to win more souls. That is why it is important to be born again and accept Jesus Christ.
“A time is coming that human minds would be unable to imagine all these calamities, and the religious leaders must also continue making efforts to ensure that people are moving towards God for salvation.”
On the missing Chibok school girls, Pastor Ajayi said the Deeper Life Bible Church is concerned and worried, stressing that that is why the church always conduct special prayers every Friday for the safe return of the girls.
Ajayi said the church is expecting all Christian denominations at the programme, adding that they are so confident of good testimonies after the crusade.
He revealed that the church has concluded accommodation, security and other logistics for the international crusade holding at the Deeper Life Church Camp, Agunbelewo Area, Osogbo from tomorow till Monday.
Responding, the Managing Editor, OSUN DEFENDER, Mr Kola Olabisi, tasked religious leaders to be more committed to prayers to save the country from various challenges, which include diseases and insecurity.
He said Osun is blessed with leading spiritual leaders, which includes Pastor W F Kumuyi, Pastor Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, the late Pastor Obadare among others, adding that Pastor Kumiyi’s visit would be another turning-point for the people.
The Managing Editor also pledged the support of the newspaper to the leadership of the church to give adequate publicity to the crusade, while Pastor Ajayi also led a prayer session for the success of the establishment.

Many of you must have observed this or even experienced it.
Back in school then, there is a female friend we do talk almost everyday even on extra cool but the moment she gained admission she just switched off.
Her character changed, and all that.
So many guys also complain that their gals change after gaining admission into schools.
I dont know if to term it as one if the few ”madness” of the female species cos after a while they will come back to beg for forgiveness.
Whats your say on this?
