Innocent Ujah Idibia popularly known as Tuface Idibia who lost his father last week after 2-years battle with cancer is still traumatized over his father’s death. A member of the family disclosed that the singer who was very close to his dad, Michael Agbo Idibia, is still in shock over his sudden demise. The source said when the father was first diagnosed with cancer, the family ran up and down, spending millions just to save his life but he died anyway and Tuface Idibia has found it really hard to believe that his dad is gone. He is yet to come to terms with his father death, they simply say. The family source said:“It all began two years ago when he came down with cancer. Ever since he has been in and out of hospital. The family spent millions looking for a cure but all was to no avail. He fought a brave battle but The Lord gives and the Lord takes, he finally passed away last week and now Tuface is traumatised; he is yet to come to terms with the fact that his dad is dead because they shared a very close relationship.” Tuface while speaking to close friends said:“We have done our best, now life continues. I am going to miss dad for a long time to come”.

Boko Haram gunmen have killed scores of residents in a Nigerian town on the border with Cameroon that they captured in recent raids, witnesses toldAFPon Saturday. The militants seizedGamboru Ngalaearlier this week after taking over military and police facilities in a fierce gun battle which forced thousands of residents across the border into Cameroon. The residents fled to Fotokol for fear of attack by the Islamists, despite being told they were only after security personnel and local vigilantes. “They are now killing people like chickens,” saidSidi Kyarimi, a Gamboru resident who fled to Fotokol on Friday. “They started by selective killings and later went on a killing spree.” Among those killed included the town’s highest Muslim cleric and the head of its traders’ union, he said. “They threaten to kill anybody who refuses to leave the town. They say we don’t belong,” he added. The insurgents were roaming the streets of the town carrying guns and machetes, shooting and h*****g to death residents, saidYusuf Sanda, who also fled to Fotokol. “They have been breaking into homes and shops and looting them,” he said. “Initially they said we were free to stay or leave but now they are saying all residents should leave the town because it is now an Islamic Caliphate.” Sanda said he escaped to Fotokol by wading through the shallow river on the border because it was too dangerous to walk the streets with the insurgents on the prowl. Boko Haram has in recent weeks seized territory in northern Borno state near the border with Cameroon in an apparent move to carve out a state for themselves. In a video obtained by AFP last weekend, Boko Haram leaderAbubakar Shekaudeclared the town of Gwoza, which his men captured earlier this month, as part of an Islamic caliphate. Boko Haram now controls at least three districts in Borno state and at least one each in Yobe and Adamawa states. The military has maintained that Nigeria’s sovereignty is intact and denied reports that soldiers fled the Boko Haram assault in Gamboru Ngala into Cameroon. Borno, Yobe and Adamawa have been under a state of emergency since May last year but despite some initial gains, the military has been unable to stem increasing violence, particularly in remote regions. Madagali, a predominantly Christian town in the north of Adamawa state, was the latest to fall in the hands of Boko Haram after they chased out troops. Scores of Christians were killed in the town and many Christian women were allegedly forced to convert to Islam and marry insurgents, according to the spokesman for the Roman Catholic diocese of Maiduguri. “Christian men were caught and beheaded, the women were forced to become Muslim and were taken as wives to the terrorists,” FatherGideon Obasogiealleged. “The houses of Christians that have fled are now occupied by the Haramists. Their cars are used by the terrorists. Strict Sharia law had been promulgated”, he added in an emailed statement. There was no independent confirmation ofObasogie’sclaims due to poor phone networks in the remote region and the mass exodus of residents.

FIVE persons, a man and two of his children and two others were confirmed dead on Friday in the village of Uchenyim , Wanikade, North Ukelle in northern Cross River State after eating the meat of a dog. Reports from the area said the dog was fond of eating the eggs laid by native chicken in the Odareko-Uchenyim village and one of the villagers allegedly laced the eggs laid by his chicken with gamalin 20 insecticide and as expected, “the dog ate the eggs and fell ill and when it was about to die the owner quickly killed and prepared it into a delicacy which he, his family consumed and some neigbours consumed ” Ugbem Onawo, a villager narrated toVanguard. The man and his two children and the two others who died, according to the report also ate the intestines of the dog where incidentally the poison from the gamalin 20 is lodged leading to their taking ill and dying . “After the man shared the intestines among his children and the two neighbours and they ate death came calling and they all died though at different times ”. Our source said Onawo said they were rushed to the local health centre for medical attention but were confirmed dead on arrival at the health centre. “A feeling of grieve has descended on the entire village and people are deeply saddened by what took place as such a tragedy has not befallen them before” Hon Frank Ugbem, the councilor representing Wanikade Ward at the Yala Local Government Area legislature said the tragedy is painful and that he has sent a delegation to console the bereaved families. He said all the dead have been buried in accordance within the tradition of the Ukelle people.

Hope Aiyo, a self-described “jobless Nigerian graduate,” penned an article entitled The Cry of a Frustrated Graduate. The article focuses on the problems of Nigerian youths and the reluctance of Nigerian government agencies to address the multiple issues. I would like to reach out to the concerned government agencies to inform them of the problems that Nigerian graduates have to face every day. I want to believe that this write-up will reach the concerned people in power. And maybe, after reading this, they will take actions. It pains me to see how most of the multinational organizations hide under the umbrella of outsourcing agencies. Thus, they are able to extort the strength of the helpless and hungry Nigerian graduates. They do this while smiling to the bank with billions. The majority of these organizations, however, claim they are youth-friendly. Despite these claims, young Nigerian graduates are dying of joblessness. Therefore, I think the Nigerian Labour law needs to be reviewed. Relevant agencies must understand that Nigerian graduates have the right to work in their own country. I am urging Chief Emeka Ngozi Wogu, Nigerian Federal Minister of Labour and Productivity, to address these issues, together with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria. The normal system of education in Nigeria is 6-3-3-4. Couple this with the usual hardships associated with the university environment. Having all this in mind, I have trouble imagining a Nigerian graduate who, after all of this, settles for an outsourced sales job for N25,000 in a company that declares more than N20 billion in dividends at the end of the year. Nigeria is blessed with decent energetic youths ready to give their last strength for the progress of this country. I am calling on the Nigerian youths, the Nigerian graduates. All hands must be on deck to have a country we can call our own. President Goodluck Jonathan, Sir, please listen to our cry. Honourable Minister of Labour, Mr. Wogu, we are begging! Omisore Petitions Tribunal, Wants Aregbesola Removed

The Osun State governorship candidate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in the August 9 gubernatorial polls in the state, Iyiola Omisore, on Thursday challenged the the victory of Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress via a petition which he submitted at the Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Osogbo. Omisore’s three volumes petition, was filed at the registry of the tribunal as hundreds of PDP supporters trooped to the court to witness the signing of the documents, reports from Punch indicate. He was also accompanied to the tribunal by the state Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa; the party’s head of legal team, Chief Sunday Ojo-Williams; and Director of Publicity of the party, Mr. Bola Ajao, among others. Omisore who later spoke with journalists said the August 9 election was marred by electoral malpractices. He said, “The tribunal will declare me the validly-elected governor of the state by the grace of God on November 27 because I scored the highest number of the lawful votes cast. “The election was rigged in favour of Aregbesola; some members of the O-YES were used as INEC’s ad hoc staff, some security agents were compromised.” The PDP candidate said that he had seven senior lawyers in his legal team and that he was confident that the tribunal would do justice to his petition. According to him, many shocking revelations have been uncovered and the whole world will be told and shown how the election was manipulated in favour of the incumbent governor. He urged his supporters to be calm and remained hopeful while expressing confidence that the APC government would be sacked by the tribunal. He appealed to the Justice I. M Bako-led tribunal to maintain transparency and integrity in his handling of the case. Ojo-Williams, who gave journalists an insight into what was contained in the petition said that Omisore was praying the tribunal to nullify Aregbesola’s victory and declare him the winner of the election. He said that Omisore had already met the requirement of the law by scoring the mandatory 25 per cent of votes in all the 30 local government areas of the state, saying the candidate should be declared the winner of the election with the 292,747 votes recorded for him. He said that the petitioner was in the alternative praying the tribunal to cancel the outcome of the election in 17 local government areas and order a rerun supplementary election in the disputed areas. Ojo-Williams listed the disputed local government areas as parts of Atakunmosa East, Irewole, Iwo, Ede North, Ede South and Irelodun, among others. The PDP state chairman also expressed the confidence that the court would sack Aregbesola just like it sacked former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola from office about four years ago. He said, “The election was characterised by fraud and that is why we have come before the court. We are hopeful and confident that just like the court imposed Aregbesola on us, the court will also sack him from office before November 27.” The Independent National Electoral Commission had on August 10 declared Aregbesola the winner of the election with 394,684 votes while Omisore came second with 292,747 votes.

Stop Claiming Credit For Oyinlola’s Emergence As Governor In 2003 – Okuku Youths Tell Omisore

Members of Okuku Progressive Youths Forum, OPYF, have asked the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in the August 9 governorship election in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore and his associates to stop claiming credits for the emergence of Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola as governor of the state in 2003. Oyinlola hails from Okuku in Odo Otin Local Government Area of the state. Oyinlola, who dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Congress some few days to the last governorship election which the APC candidate won, was elected governor in May 2003 and re-elected in 2007, but a court of appeal nullified his election on November 26, 2010. The OPYF in a statement issued by its president, Mr. Olatundun Oyetunde, said it felt disappointed by recent reports by some loyalists of Omisore claiming that he sponsored and bankrolled Oyinlola’s election in 2003. According to Oyetunde, “Nothing can be farther from the truth. Prince Oyinlola, while in office, repeatedly publicly announced that his election was funded by himself. No one contradicted him then. It is too late to claim credit now for what Omisore did not do”.

President Goodluck Jonathan Launches New National e-ID Card In Abuja [See Photo]

President Jonathan today August 28th launched the new national e-ID card at the Villa in Abuja. The new e-ID card which is powered by MasterCard is a multi-purpose card for identification, electronic signatures, and can be used for depositing money, withdrawing and making payments. So it’s both an ID card and ATM. The first phase of the project will see 13million Nigerians issued the card while the next phase will target 100million Nigerians. The project is a partnership with MasterCard, the Nigerian National Identity Management Commission and Access bank.
