88-Year Old Man Becomes Tunisia’s President

Beji Caid Essebsi, 88, is the new Tunisian president. Essebsi was sworn in today as Tunisia’s first freely elected president. He was the speaker of parliament under President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali in 2011. He pledged to work towards national reconciliation shortly after taking his oath of office.

The University of Liverpool Women's Rugby League team are the latest group of women to strip n*de for a charity calendar to raise money for 6-year old Jack Johnson who is down with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).
The team, who have also been struggling to find enough cash to pay for equipment and travel, will also benefit from some of the money, while the rest will go to Jack.
DMD, which currently affects around one in 3,600 boys in the UK, only appears in males and causes progressive muscle wasting. Now the girls hope their naked calendar will raise awareness of the disease, as well as raising funds to support the search for a cure. More photos after the cut.

A wealthy Chinese businessman has been jailed for 13 years for hiring poachers to kill three tigers so he could eat their penises and drink their blood. Xi Pat had 'a special hobby of grilling tiger bones, boning tiger paws, storing tiger penis, eating tiger meat and drinking tiger blood alcohol'.
A court heard he ate the genitals and drank the animals' blood before giving the rest of the meat to his business friends and partners.

A 55-year-old man, identified as Osaro, has been arrested by men of the Edo State Police Command for allegedly defiling his nine-year-old daughter.
Osaro, according to his wife, Stella, had earlier impregnated their 17-year-old daughter, just as she told newsmen at the Ogida Police Division, Benin, that she recently returned to her husband’s house after he said he had repented.

17 year old transgender teen Leelah (Josh) Alcorn committed suicide on Sunday Dec. 28th by walking in front of a tractor trailer on a highway in Ohio. A few hours later, her suicide note, which she posted on her Tumblr page through scheduled publishing, went up. In the heartbreaking suicide note, she blamed her death on her religious parents who she said refused to acknowledge her gender and forbade her from transitioning into a girl.

Nigerian man sentenced to death by hanging for drug trafficking in Malaysia

A 37 year old Nigerian man, Ibe Godwin Uzochukwu has been sentenced to death by hanging in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia after he was found guilty by a Malysian high court for trafficking 2,150.4 grammes of methamphetamine. He was arrested with the drugs at KL International Airport (KLIA), Sepang in 2011.
According to court documents, Ibe was arrested with the banned drugs upon his arrival at the exit Route, KLIA Arrival Hall, at 4.30pm on July 1, 2011. After listening to the submission of the prosecuting counsel, the judge who presided over the case, Datuk Halim Aman, found Uzochukwu guilty and sentenced him to death by hanging.

So he decided to use his 12-year old daughter, Mary as collateral to borrow N600,000 from a man in calabar. The girl later died, and 19months after, he is yet to pay the said money, which has made Mary to be living in agony with her father’s creditor. The Tifases' apartment The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 22-year-old Oluwaropo Tifase, for allegedly killing his father, Moses Tifase, in the Mile 2 area of the state. It was learnt that Oluwaropo, who is the fifth child and only son of the family, had had clashes with his parents in the past over financial issues.
According to the police, Oluwaropo, a suspected cultist, was rusticated from a university in Ondo State, a few years ago for some cult-related offences.It was gathered that 75-year-old Moses, a retired mechanical engineer, was stabbed to death in the neck with a pair of scissors.

Four armed robbery suspects identified asOnyenge Osanie, Azuka Eboh, Ezelonwu Michael and Afolabi Shakiru, allpictured above who were arrested by officers of the Lagos state Police state command for looting shops and stealing from some phone dealers at the Alaba International Market in Lagos on December 20th, told the police that they did not steal from the traders but only collected their dues as the phone dealers failed to settle them after they supplied them with stolen phones.

The Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ijede Police Station, Ikorodu, Nwaoha Uzoma has quietly died in his office on Christmas day. Uzoma who spent the night at work has been ill, but recovered few days ago according to junior officers before he was found dead in his office. No one knew the DPO had died, but when they noticed he didn’t come out of his office all day and wouldn’t pick his calls or reply text messages, they had to forcefully open the door, before they found his lifeless body on the floor.
Uzoma was formerly heading the Anthony Police Division, before he was posted to Ijede, early this month. His corpse has since been deposited at a private mortuary.

Search for missing AirAsia jet suspended

Indonesia's Aviation Ministry has suspended the search for missing AirAsia jet that disappeared this morning while flyingfrom the city of Surabaya in Indonesia to Singapore. According toIndonesian transport ministry official Hadi Mustofa, the search was suspended due to night fall but will continuetomorrowmorning as early as 7am.
The jet carrying 162 people had138 adults, 16 children and one infant.

Denise Sumpter, 44, has said she won’t stop breastfeeding her six-and-a-half years old daughter until she asks her to stop despite breastfeeding her 18-months old brother. Denise says she thinks it’s one of the reasons Belle doesn’t fall sick often. She also feels confident that she won’t be at risk of breast cancer, and says it has made her eat whatever she wants knowing she won't add weight.
Belle is said to be the oldest child in the UK known to be taking her mother’s milk.
