A police officer whose neighbours say is an unrepentant wife beater, Charles Ehianaguan, has got his just reward after the woman, Esther, reacted violently by bathing him with hot water after another round of beating.

The incident happened at Unity Estate, Car Wash area of Egbeda-Idimu, Lagos, where the couple live, and according to some witnesses, the wife must have had enough of the violence meted out to her by her husband for her to react the way she did so as to save her life.

As one neighbour put it:
"The man is always maltreating his wife. He would beat her over the slightest provocation. The woman had been enduring the beating for too long. I guess she was tired of it and decided to hit back."

According to reports, on Sunday, May 31, Ehianaguan, an Edo State indigene, attached to the Area F Police Command, Logistics and Supply Unit, Ikeja, had descended yet again on his wife in his usual manner, giving her the beating of her life.

Satisfied that he had put her in her place, he left home but by the time he got back, he was served a dose of his own medicine as his wife had boiled the water and waited for him to return.

When Ehianaguan returned home at about 8pm, the wife stood waiting for him behind the door with the boiling water and when she sighted him, she emptied the boiling water on him.

It was also gathered that Esther, a foodstuff seller in the neighborhood, was the one shouldering the financial burden of the family, catering for the needs of the couple's five children with the husband usually spending his money on frivolities such as drinks and women but always had a way of beating up and pummeling the woman every other day.
