Two paramedics have been shot dead by the grandfather of a teenage girl who died of undiagnosed meningitis in Russia, it was claimed today. Bekir Nebiev, 55, took a hunting rifle and drove to the ambulance station in the Crimean capital of Simferopol where he opened fire on a crew, killing two female workers and injuring a man.

He shot paramedic Irina Sukhanik, 30, in the heart and she died on the spot. Nurse Tatiana Katkova, 55, was hit in the stomach and died later on the way to the hospital. Paramedic Vladimir Slanchak, 42, was seriously wounded after bullets hit him in the head and neck.

A regular patient himself, it is claimed that he was also seeking revenge for his own care from the ambulance service concerning his heart condition.
He left his a cardiogram printout at the murder scene with the words scrawled: 'This is revenge. It crushed my chest.'

Another nurse, named Olga Zvonnik, was hit in the shoulder, but assisted police by identifying the attacker.
Local reports said that the man was angry over the death of his 16 year old relative three weeks ago, believed to be his granddaughter - which followed an ambulance crew visiting her at home when she had a high temperature, and also about his own treatment.

Paramedics told the girl's family that hospital treatment was not necessary. But she soon had convulsions and died.
The cause was identified as meningitis. Police were today investigating the girl's death. However, the ambulance crew he shot was from a different station than those dealing with his relative.
It also emerged that on the day of the shooting, he had called for an ambulance, but it had been slow arriving. Ambulance staff said he frequently called them out simply to check his blood pressure.

He left home in his Soviet-era Moskvich car with his gun and 200,000 roubles, his life's savings of £2000 and yet to be found. Police guards have been placed on all medical facilities around Simferopol.
